
Sexual Harassment Awareness Program
The Sexual Harassment Awareness Program was successfully conducted on 25.09.2024 at seminar hall by the Sexual Harassment Committe in the forenoon session. This program was organized to educate and empower participants on the prevention, identification, and legal recourse available regarding sexual harassment in various settings. With distinguished guest and insightful session, the event aimed to promote a safe and respectful environment for all individuals.
Chief Guest of the event was Mr. J. Arul Rabert, MSW, Gender Specialist, District Hub for Empowerment of Women, District Social Welfare And Women Empowerment Department, Trichy.
The program commenced with a presidential address delivered by Dr. G. Senthil Kumar, the Principal of SRMTASC. He emphasized the importance of creating safe spaces for open discussions about harassment and the need for such initiatives to build awareness and foster a culture of respect. The Vice Principal, Dr. S Fabiola Kavitha, provided a warm introduction to the Chief Guest. She highlighted Mr. J. Arul Rabert’s extensive experience and contributions in the field of human rights, particularly his efforts in advocating against gender-based violence and sexual harassment.
The Chief guest led this session, where he elaborated on the various forms of sexual harassment, including physical, verbal, non-verbal, and cyber harassment. He used real-life examples to highlight how harassment manifests in different spaces—educational institutions, workplaces, and public areas. And also he focused on the legal frameworks, particularly the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal) Act, 2013 (POSH Act). He explained the processes for filing complaints, the role of internal committees, and the rights of victims. The importance of bystander intervention and the responsibility of the community in preventing harassment was emphasized.
The Sexual Harassment Awareness Program was a successful initiative that provided valuable knowledge and tools to all the participants. The event not only educated attendees on their legal rights but also inspired them to take action in their personal and professional lives to prevent harassment.
